Our Village Shop, Tearoom and Part-Time Post Office
Troutbeck's Village Institute Shop and Tearoom is not only at the geographic centre of our village; it's widely-regarded as the heart of our community.
In April 2016, Lynn and Alan Salter took over running our tearoom and shop. Now known as The Old Post Office Tearoom, it's open every day, all Summer, and reduced hours after that, as detailed below.
We wish Lynn and Alan a warm welcome to our Troutbeck village community!
Summer opening hours: 10.30am to 5.00pm, every day of the week.
Winter opening hours: 10.30am to 4.00pm, every day except Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 23rd November until further notice.
Tearoom menu: Teas, speciality teas, cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, cold drinks, panninis, home-made soups, Kendal-made flapjacks (the best), freshly baked scones, with jam and clotted cream, cakes and ice-creams.
Shop: Basics including tea, coffee, milk, free-range eggs, bread, butter, yoghurt, cereals, toilet rolls, jams, toiletries etc. Also local cards by Mike Guy and Margaret Wilmott, lovely ‘dotty sheep’ cups and aprons, and vintage style giftware. Come and take a peek!
Part-time Post Office Service in the Village Institute:
• To meet local needs, Ambleside Post Office staff now operate a part-time counter service in the Village Institute (above the new shop) on two days a week
• Open on Monday afternoons from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
• And on Thursday mornings from 9.30 am to 11.30 am
• Please support this service or we'll lose it!
Until 2012, Sue and Pam Black ran Troutbeck's shop and post office for almost 40 years. Their mother ran the village store too, and there's a memorial to her
important place in Troutbeck's history on Annie's Clock just above the shop's doorway.
